Antar Mauna (MP3 Audio)
Antar Mauna (inner silence) is a 40-minute meditation which helps to bring the light of the awareness to the mental field (in the space of chidakash). Through observing the activity of the mind (i.e. the ‘mind-stream’) we can gain a deeper insight into the constant mental activity. The mind-stream is ever present in thought forms, pictures, memories, impressions and sensory processing. Often the subtle activity behind the thinking mind is subliminal.
The name ‘Antar Mauna’ indicates the potential to experience our ‘inner silence’ – the space where all mental activities surge forth and recede. Ultimately, the development of this practice leads to understanding the subtle consciousness – the substratum from where the mind itself has evolved.
Some benefits of Antar Mauna
- Helps to expand the awareness into the subliminal region
- Allows the subconscious activities to be observed and expressed freely
- Helps to eliminate stored impressions as they bubble up to the surface
- Makes room for a deeper mental space
- Develops a steady level of inner concentration (dharana)
As the mind is allowed to express freely, control of the thought forms is developed, and in the final stage ‘inner silence’ is experienced and sustained.
Antar Mauna is suitable for all meditation practitioners (from beginners to more advanced) wanting to develop the drashta (witness capacity) and gain a deeper insight into the layers of mental activity.
It is essential that the participant has already learned to sit in a comfortable, still and steady position without moving (can either be in a chair or adopting a traditional meditation asana).
